A 15-minute walk takes you to my go-to neighborhood for groceries, a haircut, drug store, banks, ice-cream and a movie. Like to browse in bookstores, poke around in re-sale shops, drink a latte outdoors and people watch? Need an excellent bottle of wine or a fun gift? Over 35 restaurants, with Commis, a Michelin star restaurant- a gem among other local treasures. How about a quiet, peaceful place to picnic or walk? At the end of Piedmont Ave is our beloved Mountain View Cemetery, “Churchyard, Graveyard, Park & Garden”, designed by Frederick Olmstead who also designed Central Park in NYC. Wander the winding little roads to the top for a truly breathtaking view of Oakland at your feet and, on a clear day, SF and her bridges in the distance. Many famous local folks rest here :-)

Ahhh, Piedmont is maybe a 20 min walk up 51st just past the Safeway. Again food, food, food, boba, frozen yogurt, more food and lots of shopping. At the beginning of the pandemic Piedmont Grocery was the only place I shopped. It was the lowest stress grocery shopping experience I could find, they had all of the basics, and they always had cool specialty items.

Another great place to shop and wander in Oakland. The Piedmont theater has great times for movies, and the parking is just down the street on 41st. As with most neighborhoods in Oakland, tons of coffee shops, pastries, and gift shops. As well as Barney's Burgers and Poke Bowls just across the street. Also, the cemetery is a great place to walk and see grand vistas of the the city of Oakland and beyond.
