Take the tour of the mansion- it's well worth it! For active people, I also recommend hiking up to the mansion from Lower McClay Park in NW Portland. The views from the mansion are fantastic, the tour is very interesting and then you can hike all the way back down again through Forest Park.

Small but gorgeously designed- try to visit the Koi pond when they are feeding them- you can ask the keeper all about the Koi! Stop at the tea house for refreshment too! Then visit the rose gardens below and sniff the roses until you can't stand it anymore....

This is a great way to see the river and both sides of the city. especially when the cherry blossoms are blooming in late March. Lovely in the evening for watching the sun set and getting great views of all the bridges.
