Cascais was an old fishing village. There is a seaside promenade between Cascais and Estoril
Cascais started out as a little fishing village and is now a very fashionable place. It also has some pretty good beaches and is only a few minutes away (on a cool scenic train ride) from downtown Lisbon. Estoril is the whole surrounding area (includes Cascais and Sintra) - I thought I'd mention both as people are bound to recommend them and this way you'll know what they're talking about!

If you're in Lisbon, you definitely can't leave without taking a tour through Cascais. Less than an hour away from the city - and you can even take the train and enjoy the view on the way there - it's the true jewel of Portugal's capital. I recommend take a day trip tour from Lisbon to Sintra with a stop in Cascais

- Plaza“The plane tree peppered Rossio Square is where Lisbon’s local life ticks over each day. Officially titled Pedro IV Square, the spot marks the very heart of the Pombaline Lower Town, which spreads out in wide boulevards between the Tagus and Baixa rivers.”
