Fort Funston is a stretch of coastal headlands and beaches with trails for hiking, biking, and walking dogs. With over 200 acres of beach and bluffs, Fort Funston is a perfect location for active people (and dogs) to explore in San Francisco.
A former harbor defense installation, it included several artillery batteries; The Fort Funston Nike Missile battery was designated SF-59, and you can visit the cement remains.
On windy days you will see hang gliders flying overhead along the coast, and may be able to meet some of the "Fellow Feathers" hang gliding club.
