This place has great art on the walls, a bunch of pinball machines and pool tables, and they carry a few good (and a few cheap) beers. Grab a seat at the bar and chat up a local or eat out on the back deck.

This is a small, dark place with loud local bands, a tiny beer selection, and chili that probably came from a can. If you're looking for a dive, this is your spot. They've often got live music going on, just check their schedule, or we can help you find it.

McMenamins is a Portland staple. They take old, interesting buildings and save them from demolition to make sites like this: a separate pub, theater, cigar lounge, and pool/shuffleboard hall. There is also food and drink delivery to any seat on the balcony level of the theater, so you can have a burger and a beer while you watch.

This is the nicest park on this side of the river. During the spring and summer this place is wonderful, and is bigger than it looks. It's a nice place to have a picnic alongside a lake, or go for a walk hidden from the city.

Laurelhurst Park
SE Cesar E Chavez Blvd & Stark StThis is the nicest park on this side of the river. During the spring and summer this place is wonderful, and is bigger than it looks. It's a nice place to have a picnic alongside a lake, or go for a walk hidden from the city.
This is a 5000+ acre park accessible from downtown, and one of the largest urban parks in the United States. You can take the Max (metro) to the Zoo stop, which will get you out near the park. You could also check out Pittock Mansion in the park, which has a great view overlooking the city.

OMSI is our local science museum, and is a great place for kids or adults interested in science. One of the staple permanent exhibits is a submarine that is actually in the water, not dry-docked like at other museums!
