In a tunnel in the walls is the Treasures in the Walls Ethnographic Museum, depicting daily life from the Ottoman times to the 20th century. The mosaic-covered Or Torah (Tunisian) Synagogue has 7 torah arks. The 18th-century Al-Jazzar Mosque has marble pillars and underground pools.

In 1906, a Templar colony was established in the Tavor oak forest (the Templars were Christian Germans who established several colonies in the country). The Templars built their houses in a European architectural style, characterized by stone houses, and opened a modern agricultural colony. During World War II, some residents cooperated with the Nazi regime, were deported by the British to Australia and the last Templars were deported from the country in April 1948, by the Defense Forces.
