The reputation McMenamin's has for food and beer is that it doesn't meet Portland foodie standards - it's just okay. It's their beautiful renovation of historical buildings that is really awesome. Check out the Backstage bar over at the Bagdad -- a cool space with high ceilings and pool tables. If you go on a weekday, you might be able to find a spot to sit at the mezzanine.
