Authentic Southern Brazilian Hospitality! The Art of Churrasco. Gaucho chefs slowly grill choice cuts of skewered rotisserie meats over an open flame to capture the authentic flavor and texture of each distinctive cut. A parade of meats is continuously offered and carved table side by Gaucho Chefs evoking the fireside meals of the open plains. The Rodizio, which means continuous table side service, continues until each guest is fully content. Say "Yes" countless times!

Zuni Cafe opened in San Francisco on February 15, 1979. Zuni Cafe won the James Beard Foundation Award for 'Outstanding Restaurant' in 2003 and 'Outstanding Service' in 2018. Besides "the" chicken, Zuni's burger, Caesar salad, and bloody mary have all been called the best in the city at various points in the restaurant’s illustrious, 40-plus-year career. Sitting on the edge of Hayes Valley, it’s the utility belt of San Francisco restaurants: good for brunch, for late-night dining, for oysters and a cocktail at the bar, or for a lovely sit-down meal with a date. If there is one dish every San Franciscan must eat, it might be Zuni’s famous chicken for two that’s roasted in the wood-fired brick oven and served with a warm bread salad. For the first time in the restaurant’s storied history, Zuni is now serving takeout — and is the first restaurant in the city to switch over to all reusable takeout containers.

Another Personal Favorite SF Restaurant: Craftsman wood finishes, an enclosed front patio with natural light, and a menu of excellent cocktails from Justin Lew and Ian Scalzo (alums of SF’s Future Bars group) give this neighborhood bar extra charm. The food menu is filled with low-key comfort food items like pulled pork tacos and fried chicken, balanced with lighter dishes like halibut ceviche and a tuna poke bowl. Plus it’s open late, with food available til 1 a.m. — a true gem in this sleepy town.

It wouldn’t be San Francisco without the Mission’s squadron of high-quality taquerias, none better or more famous than this one. Known, in part, for long lines at all times of day, even during the pandemic, La Taq built up an unwaveringly loyal fan base even before it landed its America's Best Burrito title. The carnitas and carne asada are some of the best around; the tacos come wonderfully overloaded; and those burritos, famously, are served without rice so there’s no carb overload to distract from the quality of the meats.

This busy, colorful oasis in the Mission with craft cocktails and inventive Mexican dishes is always a great choice. Not only does it have a version of queso — a surprisingly elusive dip in SF — but its taco options are on point with fillings like panko-crusted shrimp, fish, and grilled steak. Loló has an extensive takeout menu featuring more portable offerings than the restaurant’s usual sleek small plates — think burritos stuffed with birria or cochinita pibil. It’s also selling cocktails, michelada kits, and meal kits for, say, making your own carnitas at home.

A historic concert venue. In the mid-1960s, the Fillmore Auditorium became the focal point for psychedelic music and counterculture in general, with such acts as The Grateful Dead, The Steve Miller Band, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Byrds, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Santana, Frank Zappa's The Mothers of Invention, The Allman Brothers Band, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and British acts The Who, Cream, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd all performing at the venue. Besides rock, Graham also featured non-rock acts such as Lenny Bruce, Miles Davis, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Charles Lloyd, Aretha Franklin, and Otis Redding as well as poetry readings. The Grateful Dead were regulars at The Fillmore, having played a total of 51 concerts from 1965 through 1969.

Must See!

Encompassing nearly 16 acres, Mission Dolores Park is one of San Francisco's most popular parks, the vibrant heart of its equally vibrant, culturally diverse neighborhood. Dolores Park provides access to spectacular views of the downtown city skyline. Comprised of two distinct areas - the upper slope where you'll find most families and children congregating at the playground, and the lower slope where a more laid-back scene usually unfolds. The vast stretches of grass welcome picnic luncheons, games of Frisbee, book readers sprawled across blankets, sunbathers taking a snooze and visitors who come to enjoy the following Dolores Park attractions. "A great weekend hangout spot with a fun relaxing vibe with chill folks, popping music, cool games and cute dogs".

Bar/Alcohol

An excellent bar in Hayes Valley, Brass Tacks is good to keep on your radar for many situations: post-work drink with the team, glass of wine with a girlfriend, or solo beer with your trusty dachshund Colonel Mustard. The space is small but never too slammed and the cocktails are excellent. Being dog-friendly is a plus, and the prime Hayes location is the kicker.

Recently ranked one of the top 27 bars in America. Martuni's is a San Francisco institution where you won’t be judged for your preference on gin or vodka martinis. Stay for the piano bar in the back which on any given night is packed with locals singing loudly, joyfully in unison. Be careful, the drinks are delicious, large and very strong.

Whether it’s a dance party celebrating the music of Prince and Michael Jackson or a Sunday afternoon chillin’ to R&B and chowing down on fresh-off-the-grill ribs, there’s a little something for everyone at Madrone Art Bar—a multi-media space that’s always in-flux. The bar doubles as an exhibit space for an ever-changing display of paintings, photographs, sculptures and more, and while one night may include sketching nude models to live Punk-Blues, another may focus entirely on DJ-spun Motown tunes.

Enjoy a menu of labor-intensive libations served by highly skilled (and dapperly-dressed) bartenders at the city's original nuevo speakeasy, which first opened its unmarked door back in 2005 and ushered in a whole new era of SF craft cocktails.
