Our favorite hikes!
The East Preserve is a magical! We love the Preserve as there are numerous free ranging cows and their babes roaming the trails. If you make it up to Kanaka Place you will find the most spectacular view of the Palomar Observatory and ocean.

Santa Ysabel East Preserve
500 Farmer RdThe East Preserve is a magical! We love the Preserve as there are numerous free ranging cows and their babes roaming the trails. If you make it up to Kanaka Place you will find the most spectacular view of the Palomar Observatory and ocean.
Volcan is spectacular, but can be a challenging hike. Once you get to the top meadow you can see the Salton Sea, desert floor and the ocean. And if you hike the mountain in the spring, the top is covered in blankets of desert flowers.

Volcan Mountain Trailhead

This hike is one of our favorites! You can park at the Paso Picacho state park directly across the street from the trailhead. Parking is $6 for the day and you can picnic there as well. The hike has several switchbacks heading to the top which gives you a little reprieve from a straight up climb. Once you get to the top there are stairs leading you to a look out and when we we're there it was swarming of butterflies. Just beautiful!

Stonewall Peak Trailhead
Stonewall Peak TrailThis hike is one of our favorites! You can park at the Paso Picacho state park directly across the street from the trailhead. Parking is $6 for the day and you can picnic there as well. The hike has several switchbacks heading to the top which gives you a little reprieve from a straight up climb. Lake Cuyamaca is a short 10-15 minute drive from us. You can park just a mile from the lake and take the trailhead which will allow you to meander through meadows, valleys and around the lake. Here you will be sure to see deer! There is also a bait/tackle store as well as a waterview restaurant.
