Local tip
Kongo Mosque is one of the oldest buildings in Kenya and is still a holy site. Shaded by many ancient baobab trees and overlooking the river estuary, this is a magical place worth a visit (although the mosque is not open to the public). Please be respectful and wear proper attire when at the parking lot next to the mosque, but once on the fine sandy estuary beach you're welcome to jump into the waters in your beach wear! Depending on the tide the estuary will turn into a beautiful calm lagoon inviting you to wallow in the waters, or offers you a large flat sandy area to walk on and explore. We often just go for an hour or so around sunset time to enjoy the colorful sundown over the baobabs.

Kongo Mosque
Kongo Mosque is one of the oldest buildings in Kenya and is still a holy site. Colobus Conservation is a non-for-profit organization designed to promote the conservation, preservation and protection of primates like the nationally threatened Angolan Colobus monkey, which you will see in the local forests.
It's worth a visit, and children especially will enjoy seeing the monkeys in their enclosure.
I also once had to call the team to help rescue a large male colobus monkey, which had slipped off the roof and got injured and I was rather grateful for the expert help!
Watch out for the 'Colobridges' which are spanned above the Diani beach road, so no tree-dweller has to cross the dangerous road on foot!
