Going to Burgas and not visiting St. Anastasia Island is like going to Rome and not seeing the Pope. The small island near the beautiful seaside city has become a top attraction since it opened for visitors in 2014. It is a wonderful place indeed, but in the summer it is really crowded and in the winter it is almost inaccessible.

The small island near the beautiful seaside city has become a top attraction since it opened for visitors in 2014. It is a wonderful place indeed, but in the summer it is really crowded and in the winter it is almost inaccessible.
The Sand Sculptures Festival is held annually from 2008 in city of Burgas. It begins in early summer (July) and the sculptures remain open for visiting throughout the summer. The sand shapes are located in the Burgas Park "Ezeroto" ("The Lake") in the Sea Garden. Though it is young, the festival attracts many Bulgarian and world-renowned international artists.
Among the sculptures can be seen castles, towers, marine animals, mermaids, pirates, fairy creatures and more. Some of sculptures reach a height above 8 meters. For the models is used about 2500 tons a special-resistant rain sand.
