Lunch/Dinner

Here are a few of my favourite places to eat around the city. Jump on a bike and get exploring! Tip: A lot of places in the city require a reservation (the best places get full and busy way ahead of time). I've stated if you need a reservation or not on each listing.
An amazing restaurant serving mainly vegetarian food alongside an impressive bio/organic/natural wine menu. It’s a very lively and popular spot with locals from the area. No reservations required, but I would suggest getting there before 7:00 to ask for a table.

This place is the best! The food, the wines, the staff…it’s all amazing. Menu is focused on seasonal vegetarian produce (meat options available) and the bio/natural wine list is extensive. Also great to go check out a different part of the city - only a 10 mins taxi ride. Reservation required.

Great Israeli street food in the heart of Amsterdam. If you can't get in here, they have another two sites across the city.

There are many cheese (kaas) shops in Amsterdam, but this is one of the best. You can get fresh sandwiches and toasties (my favourite is cheese and kimchi), made to order; the perfect lunch to take and sit on the canalside.

Want a break of the canals? Then head to the beach! 20min on the train from Amsterdam Centraal Station and you'll be at the beach. The best beach bar is Republiek.

Located on the busy market street (Saturdays), this is the place to go for coffee and pastries. I would suggest going on a weekday to avoid the long queues at the weekend.

Watch out for cyclists!!

The most important bit of advice first…when heading out on to the streets of the city watch out for cyclists and trams when crossing the streets and roads. Always look both ways before crossing, cyclists come from every direction.

Cycling - Bike Rental

Getting around by bike is by far the quickest way, faster than tram or taxi. You can find bike shops everywhere, nearly all of them rent bikes by the day. It’s certainly the best way to explore the city, but please be comfortable and confident cycling, it can be a little scary if you aren’t used to cycling in crowds.

Boating - Tours & Rental

Seeing the city by boat is an amazing experience. There are two ways you can go about this...jump on an organized boat tour (there are many of these to choose from, but my suggestion would be pick the tour operators with the smaller boats, drinks included etc. it makes for a nicer experience), or rent your own boat if you're feeling very adventurous!
