Food scene

(45 min drive) there is one in Tillamook where the beer is brewed but the location and the food are not outstanding. The one in Pacific city is worth the short drive as it’s on the beach, the menu is more diverse and the location OUTSTANDING but then again we have not been since Covid.

Fish Market in Tillamook This place has really good fish and chips. We also get salmon to grill on the BBQ but our favorite place for fresh fish is the fish peddler.

Sightseeing

Whalen Island is a part of the Clay Meyers State Natural Area. Situated between Cape Kiwanda and Cape Lookout, this unique area has tremendous diversity : grasslands, mudflats, white sandy beaches, a coastal forest, and dunes. The short (1.5 miles) easy loop will take you through all of these zones with plenty of places to stop have a picnic, play in the sand and watch birds. Make sure to bring binoculars, we have seen bald eagles, herons, cranes, hawks… The only drawback is the distant roaring sound of the sand buggies...

(2.2 Miles - Super Easy) . Two short loops and a half-mile spur that leads to Kilchis Flat on Tillamook Bay. Along the way, interpretive signs reveal the history of the area and provide information on the fauna and flora. It was the site of the north coast’s biggest native village.

Cape Meares lighthouse, Octopus tree and the largest Spruce tree in Oregon Bring your binoculars as this is one of the best Whale Watching spots on the Oregon Coast. A very short hike (0.3 mile) will take you to two of the most famous trees in Oregon. The largest Spruce tree (750 to 800 years old) at the entrance of the park and the Octopus Tree (250 to 300 years old), some believe that this huge Sitka spruce was shaped by the natives of the coast Into its Octopus-like form to mark an important site. Cape Meares lighthouse is a very compact light house, its lens was made in Paris France!

Sitka Sedge state park if you prefer flat walks, Sitka Sedge offers over four miles of trails loops through forestland and marshland and leads to a quiet beach. This new state park is a great spot for bird watching. The beach is a wild bird sanctuary, dogs are allowed on the trails but not on some portions of the beach.

We recently hiked the Cape lookout south trail with our dog and son (11 years old). 1 hour downhill to get to the beach and 1.5 hour uphill to go back to the parking lot). The hike is not hard, mostly in the woods, the beach is beautiful!
