This place is super popular. It's a French bakery with good food and coffees. Lines out the door. It's kind of expensive, but worth it if you like the kind of food they serve.

Mitchell's Ice Cream is simply the best! You can wait in line after taking a number, or you can stroll in like you own the place, grab a tub out of the freezer and jump the line. Yummy!

Oldest building in SF--super old church and oldest mission in California: http://www.missiondolores.org. It's touristy, but not in a bad way. It's just something to see and experience. Great for kids if they're studying American history (whatever grade level).

Bolinas is a tiny, cute town in Marin county. The beach there is really pretty, and the town is not very touristy at all. It's typical northern California funky, a bit hippie throwback. Antiques!

Terrific natural history museum. They have a planetarium, an aquarium, and wonderful natural history exhibits. The roof is covered by a living garden. Worth the price, especially if you have kids. Their cafe serves really good food. You should go early and plan to have lunch there.
