Food Scene

I love this Italian restaurant, even though I only order pizza when I come here, it’s the atmoshpere that keeps me coming back. Ask for the limoncello! If you’ve ever been to Italy, you know the limoncello flows through the streets and it’s always a tad bit different at each location depending on how the house prefers to make it. I recommend the antipasto plate before a pizza- it’s enough for about 2-3 people to share. Oh, also, the caramel gelato with sea salt and olive oil! Mangia tutti!

Amazing Caribbean bar and restaurant- fresh fruit purees make all the classic rum drinks taste so tropical, and it really pairs with the food. I prefer to order all appetizers instead of an entree when I come here because I really want to taste and feel all the different textures. I highly recommend the coconut shrimp and the jerk chicken wings! They also use their signature jerk sauce on a salmon dish called (duh) jerk salmon. If you come here, I highly recommend asking to sit on the patio outside; it has a way better Caribbean feel than the inside restaurant.

Entertainment & Activities

If you need a break from lounging at home, maybe some 20-story drops will wake you up! California’s Great America is home to some pretty big coasters and an entire water park with fountains you can play in a some pretty cool water rides. Most people love The Goldstriker, which of course is a good old fashioned wooden beast of a coaster that feels like it’s never ending. Locals head to the nearest grocery stores for discounted group tickets or wait for them to pop up on Groupon. Oh yeah, and if you see fudge anywhere in the park, it’s delicious and they give you GIANT hunks of it. I don’t know what it is about amusement parks… the smell of sunscreen and kettle corn... makes me want fudge.

Having grown up in the Bay Area, The Winchester Mystery House was definitely a go-to attraction at least one time! The sad tale of the widow Sarah Winchester is the premise of the sheer madness she suffered and her life-long project of constructing, destructing and reconstructing over 100 rooms, twisting stairs that lead to nowhere, and a before-its-time system of hot water and wired electricity. After the death of her husband and inheriting millions from the success of the Winchester rifle, Sarah W. began an elaborate remodel that never ended, some say from paranoia of not trusting her wait staff that lived on the grounds. You can find a discounted ticket on Groupon most of the time!

Aside from going to class or watching the Stanford Cardinal football games, there is a ton of stuff to see at Stanford University. I first visited the campus in college when I was writing a report on the Stanford Memorial Church, a gorgeous chapel located in the quad. I was blown away to see all of the mission-style original buildings and the must-see Rodin Sculpture Garden. There’s even a free hour-long tour you can take advantage of!
