Ocean, beaches, and sweeping coastal vistas make Luffenholtz Surfside Cabin a spectacular Redwood getaway. Keep a sharp lookout for migrating Humpback and Grey Whales, seals, and river otters from your cabin’s decks and two-person soaking tub.

Rest and recharge at this charming seaside cabin located two miles south of Trinidad. The one room floor plan was designed by its’ sailor owner, and has a cozy, nautical vibe. The Queen-sized bed is comfortable with top notch bedding for your comfort. There is a fully fenced yard for one well behaved dog. As sunset approaches enjoy a glass of wine from Tepona Point, directly across the street from your private driveway. The kitchen/galley is small but fully equipped for preparing delicious meals. Together with a propane bbq for easy grilling, you may dine inside, or al fresco on the deck to the sounds and sights of the sea! You can relax and explore for days and never get in your car. Take a picnic lunch to the tide pools and creek on Luffenholtz Beach, across the street from your cabin. Surf some of the best waves Northern California has to offer at Houda Point/Camel Rock, a 0.4 mile stroll down the road. Or, dare to bare at the popular (clothing optional) Baker Beach, a one-half mile walk north. One mile south Moonstone Beach, at the mouth of the Little River, is a favorite of locals (and is legendary for its hospitality to dogs!). It is known for its endless well of sea shells and sea caves. If you can tear yourself away from your cabin, a two mile ride north brings you to the charming town of Trinidad (population 304!). This seaside village provides you with all necessities, including gas, groceries, art galleries, and fine dining establishments offering local seafood, produce, and meats. It also provides one of the most pristine and spectacular viewing sites for our coastlines and migrating whales. Spend the early morning exploring the Trinidad Pier, and watch the local fleet unload their catch of Dungeness Crab and King Salmon. Hike the spectacular trail around Trinidad Head, or one of several trails taking you north to College Cove and Elk Head. Charter a fishing boat or rent sea kayaks or stand-up paddleboards. Centrally located, Luffenholtz Seaside Cabin is your gateway to all things that have made Humboldt County Legendary. The nearby historic towns of Ferndale, Arcata, and Old Town Eureka feature music, art galleries, concerts, and fine restaurants. Experience the grandeur of Redwood National Park (30 minutes north), and nearby lagoons and rivers. You won’t have to go far to fill your vacation with memories to last a lifetime.

GETTING AROUND:
Close proximity to ACV airport and conveniently located ¾ miles off Highway 101. However, it should be noted that Scenic Drive is a coastal road that is prone to changing conditions. In several sections the road becomes single lane, with sections of dirt or gravel. Driving slowly and with caution makes this short distance easy to navigate. All sections of the road are easily walked or biked.

Please note - this home is located on a rural, coastal road that is subject to erosion, pot holes and uneven pavement. It may be narrow and have one way traffic at certain locations.

When you stay in one of our vacation rentals in Trinidad, Arcata, and McKinleyville, we’ll help you experience the North Coast’s rugged coastline, cool culture, and magical Redwood forests. Humboldt County is a very special place to visit. The cool climate is great for hiking and exploring no matter the time of year. Our driest months are August - October and our rainiest months are December - May. Outdoor enthusiasts love all the incredible activities available from hiking, biking, kayaking, surfing, white water rafting, fishing and even horseback riding. The uncrowded trails and roads make exploring a true adventure. Wildlife is everywhere including Roosevelt Elk, black bears, bald eagles and a wide array of sea life. Humboldt is also home to a lot of great locally made foods and products. There are a lot of fun and tasty breweries, wineries, cider bars, cannabis dispensaries, and farmer's markets with wild-crafted goods. Most guests never want to leave the North Coast and return again year after year!

We are your local hosts, Jonna and Reid Kitchen. We have lived in Humboldt County for the past 25 years. We decided to start a vacation rental business over a decade ago because of our love for traveling and living like locals. We have watched the vacation rental industry expand beyond our wildest dreams over the past few years. If you want a real local experience we are your perfect hosts since you can call and talk with real Humboldt County people. We are truly your local hosts and are here to offer you all of our expertise on the local area. We lived in Arcata for 10 years and Trinidad for the past 15 years where we have raised our two boys. Reid attended Humboldt State University. He loves to surf, fish, and backpack. He can tell you about all the best spots to enjoy these activities. Jonna loves hiking, yoga, gardening and cooking. We know tons of fun things to do with children and family friendly restaurants. We also know the most romantic places to go for a special occasion.
