Smyrna Fellowship Trust was started by Margit Stefansson in the year 1985 in Smyrna Campus.Smyrna Guest House which is a part of Smyrna was set up by a British couple,is a refurbished colonial property,half a mile from the Ooty bus & train stations. The Blue Room has an en suite bathroom, kitchenette, teak floors and furnishings, comfy beds and a cozy ambience. Luxury, intimacy and beauty. One of 6 rooms in a 180 year old house. A complimentary breakfast is provided.

People come to Ooty for a respite from the heat and noise of the plains, for open fires, clean air and clear starlit skies. A heritage of colonial architecture and well-established gardens offer a taste of luxury, tranquility and relaxation that nourishes the soul. Our hill top was originally bought from the Todas by a bishop, who built the house you'll be staying in around 200 years ago. It is surrounded by farmland and tea fields, you can walk down to the railway track and along it to Lovedale where a Toda temple can still be seen, as well as bison, deer and Malabar Giant Squirrels. Otherwise you could walk up the way for breathtaking views of Ooty town and the race course. Failing that you could take a blanket out onto the lawn and have a nap underneath the spreading chestnut tree. Just don't let the sheep nibble your toes if they are out!

There are plenty of luxury hotels in Ooty, but we have partnered with AirBnb because we want to attract customers who are looking for something more. Jill and I came to Ooty to support the work of Smyrna Fellowship Trust as they serve the poor of the Nilgiris. Our stay here has changed us too and we are the richer for it. We have been offered friendship, hospitality and a chance to help where before we were just tourists. We hope you have a similar experience as you stay with us, knowing that you too are contributing to the ongoing work here through your stay.

All proceeds from the guest house will be given to Smyrna Fellowship Trust, a registered charity which serves the poor of the Nilgiris from the same campus. There is a day care centre for those with disability and a home for the abandoned elderly also situated on the campus. We arrange the educational sponsorship of over 500 children from poor communities and various house-building and welfare projects in the area. Nice walks are available, Fern Hill palace, the 'toy train' track, the forest, otherwise town is a walkable distance away, although you may want to get a rickshaw back up the hill!

A British couple, we have been working for Smyrna Fellowship Trust as Development Consultants for the last 3 years and came up with the idea of refurbishing the guest house to make it an income generating project for the charity. We designed the rooms to do justice to the colonial heritage of the building whilst giving them a modern twist, roaring fireplaces, comfy beds, tall ceilings, teak floors, all giving that hint of grandeur and luxury. We are also planning to open a cool coffee shop adjacent to the building at the end of the year so this campus can become a hub where social work and recreation can intersect. We want our customers and guests to relax and enjoy our beautiful campus, whilst supporting the important work of Smyrna here in the Nilgiris. We came to Ooty to make a difference to those in need, and we are delighted to give you the same opportunity!! We also live on campus with our four kids but are entrusting the day to day management of the guest house to Baktha Singh and Vinola, a husband and wife team in charge of hospitality. So you will be in direct contact with them, but please say hello if you see us around. We hope you enjoy staying with us, thank you for your support.

Baktha Singh and Vinola are in charge of hospitality and will be as attentive as they can to your needs. They live on campus (as do we) and will be available during working hours, but please respect their privacy in the evenings and not disturb them unless it is an emergency. There is a watchman on the gate 24-7.
