Volunteers at the Olympic and Paralympic Games

Volunteers will be the face of Paris 2024. The unique atmosphere in the venues will also be created by their presence, the services they provide and the energy they invest in their duties. It is thanks to their commitment and enthusiasm that will make Paris 2024 unforgettable, not only in sporting terms, but also in human terms.

What does it mean to volunteer?

Volunteers make a commitment to give their time during the Olympic Games, the Paralympic Games or the test events that will take place before the competitions. There is a wide variety of Paris 2024 volunteering opportunities to suit all interests, backgrounds and levels of experience. Everybody can apply from early 2023, whether they are in education, employed, retired or have a disability. In the meantime, to keep up to date with all the latest news about Paris 2024, we invite you to join the Paris 2024 Club.

What are the volunteers’ responsibilities?

The Olympic and Paralympic volunteers will have a major role to play at all official Games venues and locations to assist participants and Games stakeholders as well as to greet and orient spectators at venues open to the public. While all volunteers will be required to be able to speak fluent French or English, certain opportunities will require additional skills or qualifications. For example, they may need to understand the rules of a particular sport, speak a foreign language, have a first aid qualification or hold a driver’s licence.

The volunteering opportunities for the Games are split into six categories:

  • Greeting, orientation and assistance for spectators, participants and stakeholders

  • Operational support – sporting events

  • Operational support – organisation

  • Transport

  • Support for medical services

  • Support at ceremonies

FAQs

Paris 2024 intends to take on 35,000 to 45,000 volunteers in order to organise the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Volunteers are an essential part of the success of Paris 2024, representing Paris 2024 in the eyes of the athletes, spectators and all Games stakeholders. Their positive attitudes and skills will contribute to the unique atmosphere of Paris 2024. They are the first point of contact for everyone experiencing Paris 2024 – the spectators coming to Paris and the surrounding region, Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes, Nice, Saint-Etienne and Tahiti, the athletes that they will assist at all official sites (competition venues, the Athletes’ Village, airports, etc.) and everyone else involved in the Games whose work will be facilitated by the volunteers, such as journalists.

No, volunteers take part on a voluntary basis and are not paid. They will have free access to local public transport in order to commute to and from the Games sites where they will be working. They will also be given a free meal for every day that they volunteer.

Most duties do not require particular skills; the Paris 2024 Organising Committee strongly believes that motivated and committed applicants who believe in the project will be the best ambassadors and volunteers for Paris 2024. Some duties require specific skills, such as being a qualified driver or speaking another language; applicants will be able to include such skills in their application.

The Paris 2024 Organising Committee will define its assessment criteria for each volunteering opportunity, including interpersonal skills, availability and, in certain cases, expertise. The information provided by applicants in their application and, for certain duties, during additional assessments or interviews will enable the Organising Committee to identify future volunteers based on the criteria defined for each volunteering opportunity. No preparation is needed. From September 2023, applicants will either receive an offer or a rejection.

All candidates can call or e-mail the Paris 2024 volunteering relations centre for guidance, answers to their questions and assistance.

You must apply individually, but feel free to encourage your friends and family to apply too. Volunteers are assigned to teams, which gives them the opportunity to meet and get to know other fans of the Games.
